Man! Hanging the camera straps up!!!
They can get heavy. This is no joke! A few friends that are also photographers will admit. WHAT WE DO IS NOT WORK! We get to spend the day with awesome people that treat us like family, give us great food and provide us dope music for us to do our thang to.
But there is a flip side! Enough to make a person want to give this up and go back to the 9-5 daily and grind it out to build someone else's dream! This type of work or any type of creative type work such as musicians, actors, photographers, graphic artist, painters! (Shameless plug) Oh and if you haven't seen my Instagram post today check it out. Artist and painter Caleb Jacks performs a live painting. It's also on here under video but give my Instagram a peep. Ok back to the creatives. Not just your typical creatives but the barbers, the preachers, the teachers heck even the parents out there have to get creative in order to get stuff done. We are always critiqued and criticized weather we ask for it or not. "Your image is too dark", "why didn't you shoot it from this angle", "Its too bright", "I don't like the edit". All of that and then some and that's just from ourselves.
We are constantly looking for some form of validation about what we do and how good we are. It's just natural. We all want to think we are great at what we do because time and time again we have been told, "I you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life." I don't know about you but I love doing photography but I work my ass off! Period point blank. I WORK MY ASS OFF! Daily, hourly, and every minute I'm thinking what can I do different, shooting wise practicing, knowing my gear. Believe me I can go on and on. So we've done the work, we've been contracted for the job, we took the image and edited it, we feel like "Hell yea, this one is the bomb!" Dope stuff. Wait till I post it on Instagram and FaceBook! Just wait! Yea just wait...........Let me tell you. Social media is the devil himself! It's only there to STEAL, KILL, & DESTROY. You think it's a great piece but social media says otherwise. It's consuming waiting for data and numbers to tell us we are good. But is it lying to us. Are people just busy and didn't see your work. Did they like a few pics in a row and don't want to come across as creepy! Either way you know what.
I am going to quit letting others opinions dictate how I feel about my work.
A few of my close friends in the photography business have a few rules we go by.
Its a little vulgar but rule #1 is
F what everybody thinks.
In other words, keep pushing, keep grinding, you won't please everyone anyway. Just do you!
So I quit!
IM GOING TO LET MY FAITH BE BIGGER THAN MY FEARS!
Im going to go in the direction the Good LORD tells me to go and I'm going to let him have HIS way. I'm going to use the GIFT he has given me and keep showing people what an awesome GOD I serve and keep posting my work which reflect his love in the people I photograph. See David & Kyley if you don't know what that looks like.
